Cool Updates - 1/14/26
Hello everybody! This is the beginning of a new series here on the Cool Stuff Blog. Cool Updates, as the name suggests, will keep you all updated about everything going on behind the scenes here at Cool Stuff Media. This will include everything from upcoming projects and updates to the website to changes in operations we might make. They aren’t going to have a consistent schedule and will be posted on an as-needed basis. Every post will start with “Liner Notes,” and that will act as a TLDR for those of you who are impatient. Let’s get started!

Crowdsurf Matt’s creative role is expanding!
THE NEWS
First things first, we’re super excited to announce that the very first Cool Stuff Media interview is coming out later today. The interview is with Road Trip, and honestly I wouldn’t have chosen anybody else for it considering how important this band is to myself, Matt and Randy. Stay updated via our Instagram page (@coolstuffmedia) to find out when it drops!
Next on the list is is something that you may have noticed already. Cool Stuff Media is a community driven project at its core, and we want to help create a platform for those who document the scene that aren’t officially on our media team. As of now, this is just going to cover photography. I will still be our main photographer, no changes there, but I see too much awesome work from shows to not feature some of it. This will also be an opportunity to feature photos from shows I can’t make it to, because I unfortunately can’t be in two places at once. In terms of who we will be featuring and when, it depends. There will be a page here on the website to learn more and apply. Additionally, if you see myself, Matt or Randy at a show, feel free to come up and pitch your stuff! We unfortunately can’t take work from everybody as it would become impossible to manage and keep a high standard of quality, but we will look at ALL applications! If you’re interested, check out the link at the bottom of the post.
Now, I want to address the state of the Cool Stuff Blog. The blog is what kicked this whole project off, so it’s really important to me to keep it going. Posts will be coming back consistently soon enough. They’ve slowed down quite a bit since the Cool Stuff Media expansion, but they’ll come back into motion as I get more comfortable with everything. As far as what posts will consist of, it’s going to go back to what the goal of the original iteration of the blog was. Behind-the-scenes photos and some stories if they’re interesting enough. I didn’t forget about the Grass Valley recap post either, that’s still coming. I recently started scanning my own film and I want to make sure the photos look the best they can before I get them out to all of you.
The last thing of note is in the social media realm. Crowdsurf Matt is going to have an expanded role from here on out and manage short-form videos. Most of our Instagram Reels (and eventually TikToks) are going to be made by him. Very exciting stuff.
